Central do Brasil Intermodal Integration

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

OTC developed an intermodal master plan and concept design for the landmark Central do Brasil, Rio de Janeiro’s primary rail station, and the surrounding area, which includes several important historical structures.

Various options were explored to reorganize the existing rail, Metro, regional bus and local bus services and integrate new BRT, VLT (light rail), and funicular services, with the aim of improving passenger experience, optimizing transfer routes, minimizing traffic impact, improve pedestrian circulation and general walkability conditions, and create opportunities for development and improvement of the urban streetscape.
